Geography
Formerly known as the New Hebrides, Vanuatu is found east of Australia and south of the Solomon Islands. The main islands of Vanuatu are large enough to be considered continental. Vanuatu comprises of 80 islands, 60 of which are inhabited. Vanuatu has a land area of 4,710 square miles. Rain often occurs and the islands are considered to have lush tropical vegetation. There are active volcanoes in Vanuatu, including underwater volcanoes. The islands are mountainous, with peaks up to 5900 feet.
